Black Hawk Farms

“Everything we do is to support one goal: Bring you the best beef possible.

The quality you taste in Black Hawk Beef is a direct result of the care and commitment we take in the health of our animals and stewardship of our farmland. We’re passionate about taking good care of our land, our animals, our team and you.”

Freedom Run Farm

“Valerie Samutin founded Freedom Run Farm in 2010. When finding grass-fed, organic lamb proved to be a challenge, Valerie set out to learn everything she could about lamb shepherding. She took a deep dive into not just lamb but sustainable agriculture as well. When the desire became too much to bear, Valerie took the leap and ditched urban life in Chicago to set up shop in rural Kentucky. She started her farm and slowly grew her flock to about 100 heads. These sheep enjoy a quiet life in the pastures of Freedom Run Farm, foraging their own food in open space. Beyond her own flock, Valerie is deeply dedicated to returning Kentucky to its lamb producing heyday!”

Groce Family Farm

“Hello! We are Luke and Katherine Groce. We started Groce Family Farm near Louisville, KY soon after we got married in 2009. We started farming because we love feeding people delicious nutritious food. In 2014 we started raising pastured pork, and in 2015 we bought our new farm in Crawford County, IN. Along the way we added four wonderful children, learned a lot, and have grown in our understanding of how to raise abundant healthy food and interact with land in a way that brings about diversity, health, and positive growth to the whole system, from earthworms to eaters. Today we offer forest raised pork, open-pasture chicken duck and turkey, and 100% grass fed lamb and beef.”

3D Valley Farm

“3D Valley Farm is located in the rolling hills of Southern Indiana. We raise Angus beef cattle naturally on open pastures, without added hormones, or the use of antibiotics. Managing the animals humanely helps ensure healthy cattle and the best quality beef possible. We practice a holistic approach to farm management utilizing active pasture rotation and ongoing efforts to improve soil fertility. Our commitment to sustainable agriculture and wildlife stewardship ensures respect for the delicate balance of the land and those of us who inhabit it. Our farming practices reflect our respect for the land and the traditions that we hold true.”

Capriole Goat Cheese.jpg

Capriole Goat Cheese

“Capriole's 80 acres lie just north of the Ohio River, across from metropolitan Louisville. By 2012, we sold our herd of goats to the Indiana farmers who now supply Capriole with milk. For 36 years goats had been a vital part of our farm family, and this was a hard but necessary page to turn. Ultimately, it's allowed us to concentrate on cheese making and improve both the quality and consistency of our cheeses. Our vision is still based on family, but that family now includes Capriole's Team of passionate cheese makers and employees, as well as our grandchildren, all who love the family farm and the cheeses that are its legacy.”

“We know that the quality of our cheese is only as good as the milk, and we are reminded daily that this is dependent upon healthy animals. With great speed, the size of our herd was doubled, as was each animal’s milk production due to greater care, superior cow comfort, and better nutrition. It is a closed herd and has been for several years. We seek to breed and raise cows that are efficient in converting their feed into milk, are active, and live long. Generally speaking our cows live twice as long as the average for their breeds. We are constantly watching several metrics to learn what kind of quality of life our animals have.”

Frondosa Farms

“Frondosa Farms is a family run business dedicated to bringing quality culinary mushrooms to Louisville's thriving farm to table market.

“Patrick Webb is a student of mushrooms. He has immersed himself in the science of cultivation and his mushrooms speak volumes about his mastery of the art. His mushrooms are visually stunning in size, color and shape, and he recognizes the support and education he has gotten from mushroom growers from around the world.”

Fischer Farms 2.jpg

Fischer Farms

“Our home farm has been in our family since my great grandfather bought the land from the sheriff after the civil war veteran who previously owned the land did not return. The land is on rolling hills in southern Indiana that is best suited for cattle. We purchased two neighboring farms and now have 750 contiguous acres. . .Our focus has been on producing top quality fresh, natural meats each and every week. This consistent supply has made us a farm to fork choice for many restaurants. As I’ve often said, “It’s easy to produce great quality meat once, it’s much harder to produce high quality that is fresh each and every week.”

Rootbound Farm

Rootbound Farm is now entering into its 9th year of growing high-quality organic produce. We are located in Oldham County, Kentucky, on a farm nestled between Harrods Creek and Darby Creek. Like many Kentucky farms, the land is comprised of flat land, rolling hills, and woods. This diversity creates opportunities for a diversified farming operation. Our flat tillable land is ideal for vegetable crop production and each year we grow over 50 varieties of vegetables, fruits, and herbs. The rolling hills covered with healthy grasses provide a luscious home to our Katahdin sheep flock. We run 150 ewes and their lambs on 100 acres of Kentucky bluegrass.

Groganica Farms

Est. in 2012, Groganica Farms is a new venture in farming and the first Commercial Aquaponic Farm in Louisville, Kentucky. We are a Kentucky Proud grower with ~6,000 square feet of year-round growing space. We are currently specializing in growing heirloom and organic seeded lettuces and microgreens. We naturally grow fresh produce in a sustainable and organic way without the use of any unnatural fertilizers, chemicals, fungicides, hormones or pesticides. In many ways our method of growing exceeds the standards that are presently in place for the USDA Certified Organic program.

The Berry Center

The Berry Center established Our Home Place Meat in 2017 to develop a cooperative for small to midsize livestock farmers to sell local meat to regional markets. Beginning in our Home Place, Henry County Kentucky, we are building a healthy food and farm model that can be replicated in communities throughout the country.

Based on agrarian writings of well-known author Wendell Berry, Our Home Place Meat is guided by these values: Fair compensation for farmers, high animal welfare standards, good farming and land management practices and neighborly, cooperative relationships.
